COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Trinity United Methodist Church in Lafayette is marking 200 years by honoring its legacy of community service and historic architecture, including longstanding programs like Meals on Wheels and stained glass windows created by Edna Browning Ruby (a renowned artist from the church’s past). The church will host a homecoming worship service and lunch in November to further celebrate its bicentennial.  Star City News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Purdue University was ranked No. 62 on Forbes’ Top Colleges list and named the 8th best in the Midwest—this ranking also placed Indiana colleges such as Notre Dame at No. 33 and Indiana University at No. 94.  Journal & Courier

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Early Thursday, after a seven-hour meeting with strong local opposition, Tippecanoe County’s zoning appeals board voted 4-3 to deny the Rainbow Trout solar project on 1,700 acres of farmland. Project developers plan to review the board’s findings—exploring possible options to move forward.  Journal & Courier
  • Tippecanoe County, Lafayette and West Lafayette will receive over $17M in state funds for road projects in 2025. The money, allocated as more than $9.7M for Tippecanoe, about $4.2M for Lafayette and over $3.1M for West Lafayette, will be used for both short-term repairs and long-term improvements—ensuring safer roads.  Star City News
  • Carroll and Tippecanoe counties received nearly $25.5M in state road funding this year — the funds will support road maintenance, highway equipment purchases, bridge painting and snow removal in local communities.  WLFI

  • Many fast food and sit-down restaurants in Lafayette will be open on Labor Day with varied hours—only Raising Cane’s will remain closed. Customers should check with local stores to confirm their specific hours.  Journal & Courier

SPORTS NEWS

  • Barry Odom is now Purdue's head coach and he is expected to improve a defense that allowed nearly 40 points a game last season. The team is projected to start strong as running back Mockobee nears a 1,000-yard mark and Purdue prepares to face USC on Sept. 13 at 3:30 p.m.—a contest that could show the strength of the new coaching era.  Journal & Courier
