EDUCATION NEWS

  • West Lafayette Junior/Senior High School was ranked as the 4th best public high school in Indiana and 295th nationally by U.S. News & World Report—Rossville High School ranked 20th statewide.  Journal & Courier

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Tippecanoe APC approved a rezoning petition for a Lafayette Transitional Housing Center Homeless Services plan to build up to 80 new housing units on a three acre city parcel off McCarty Lane — phase one will provide 26 one-bedroom units for seniors and veterans and phase two will add 40 to 54 units for others. The project will move to City Council on Sept. 2.  Journal & Courier
  • About 400 Indiana National Guard troops returned home today after nearly a year overseas where they completed 15 readiness exercises—family and friends greeted the returning troops upon arrival.  Star City News

HEALTH NEWS

  • NAMI West Central Indiana launched a 24/7 mobile crisis unit for mental health and substance abuse crises—partnering with local hospitals and first responders to give immediate help.  Star City News

SPORTS NEWS

  • After practice on Thursday, Purdue head coach Barry Odom announced that Ryan Browne is the starting quarterback after he returned from a spring season at North Carolina. Browne led fall camp with two Saturday scrimmages and earned first rep duties in all drills, finishing limited play at 55 of 92 for 636 yards, 4 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions (a promising sign for the Boilermakers).  Journal & Courier
