CRIME NEWS

  • West Lafayette police reported a scam where a Chinese Purdue student was threatened with deportation by a person posing as a Chinese official — Chief Ferguson warned that similar scams and rental housing fraud could occur soon — and urged affected students to report any scams immediately.  Star City News
  • Lafayette attorney Christopher Paul Phillips will be suspended for 120 days beginning Sept. 11 after he overcharged and skimmed funds from estate cases between 2021 and 2024, the Indiana Supreme Court ruled (he misled clients by charging $500 per hour for 300 hours and withdrawing $135,375 without proper explanation).  Journal & Courier

  • This week, McCutcheon High School received a $6000 donation and school supply kits from Zeigler Subaru of Lafayette — a partnership with adoptaclassroom.org that helped more than 200 students.
