  • Purdue Homesteaders Day returns on Saturday at The Farm at Prophetstown State Park where visitors can learn beekeeping, chicken care, and other homesteading skills from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. — park entry is free for admission.  Star City News

  • Indiana State Police will increase patrols and set up sobriety checkpoints in Lafayette from Aug. 16 through Aug. 30 as part of the national Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign—officials urge drivers to plan safe rides if they consume alcohol.  Journal & Courier

CULTURE NEWS

  • On August 5, twelve exchange students from Ota, Japan visited Lafayette to learn about local culture and observe differences in schools, weather, and architecture — they praised the friendly locals and encouraged more student exchanges in the future.  Star City News

  • Purdue University emailed students and employees yesterday to announce its new Purdue Campus Transit app that shows fixed routes and live vehicle tracking as SP+ Corp replaces CityBus. Off-campus bus passes subsidized by the university will be available for purchase on Aug. 18—rides will require a pass starting Aug. 25.  Journal & Courier
  • Brain Boosters is returning to McAllister Recreation Center this fall and will offer free classes every second Tuesday from September 9 through December 9—topics include a Talk with a Cop from the Lafayette Police Department, Trash to Treasure in Tippecanoe County, and a Q&A with the sheriff, with no registration required.  Star City News
