Good morning, Lafayette. Here's your local news at a glance for Monday, the 11th of August.

SPORTS NEWS

  • Carley Barrett, a Lafayette native and Central Catholic grad, will join Purdue women's basketball as a walk-on for the 2025 to 26 season—she stepped away from competitive play four months ago and led her team to a state final while earning top honors. Barrett follows her family's Boilermaker tradition as she joins a team rebuilt using the transfer portal.  Journal & Courier
  • Purdue football's tight end group has changed since two years ago as only George Burhenn remains and the team adds four new players via the transfer portal, while transfers like Christian Earls and Luca Puccinelli boost the squad with size and strength. Coaches said the added versatility and physical presence in the group will help the team improve its offensive performance this season.  Journal & Courier
  • Paul Neidig, the IHSAA commissioner, marked his five years in office by discussing big changes in high school sports since the COVID period—he noted that the new transfer rules and tournament format changes have increased team participation. He will continue his discussion with a follow-up interview on Wednesday, August 13 to explain how these changes affect student athletes.  Journal & Courier
