  • Wildcat Creek Winery in Lafayette reopened under new owners and held a re-grand opening to celebrate the city's 200th anniversary & marked a fresh start for the local winery. The winery unveiled a Bicentennial Blueberry Wine to honor the city's history & officials expect the new ownership to drive its future growth.  Star City News

  • Mikel Berger, a Purdue grad and Lafayette businessman, was named the new CEO of Greater Lafayette Commerce after a nationwide search — he will start on August 18 and plans to boost local business and strengthen community ties.  Star City News
  • Jake’s Roadhouse will reopen in Downtown Lafayette at 4 p.m. on August 11th — beginning a new chapter after closing its West Lafayette location in 2018.  Star City News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Twelve middle and high school students from Ota City, Japan—Lafayette's sister city—arrived Tuesday at the John R. Dennis Wellness Center as part of a long-running student exchange program and will stay in Lafayette until August 14. Greater Lafayette Commerce coordinates the program that began in 1998 through a partnership with Subaru.  Star City News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Yesterday, McCutcheon High School held a freshmen orientation where the mentor club guided new students around and introduced campus activities — including marching band and engineering design class. The event helped incoming freshmen feel safe and prepared for high school.  Star City News
  • FIRE rated free speech policies at seven Indiana universities using a traffic light system—Purdue and DePauw earned green lights for safeguarding speech while IU, Ball State and USI received yellow ratings and Notre Dame and Indiana State got red lights for policies that may restrict student expression.   • U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced a plan to house ICE detainees at Miami Correctional Facility, a maximum-security prison near Speedway that she nicknamed the 'Speedway Slammer.' Indiana Gov.
