  • Lafayette’s popular Spray Day at McAllister Recreation Center was canceled Wednesday because of a nearby Swift Fuels fire along U.S. 52 — officials said they hope to reschedule the event and share updates on social media.  Star City News
  • Today, Tropicanoe Cove in Lafayette offers shark week with themed games, scavenger hunts, and photo ops that keep kids cool and active at the water park. The event ends Saturday + a Sensory Swim night is planned for August 5 from 6:15 to 8:15 p.m.  Star City News
  • Destination Downtown returns today with a 2000s theme featuring live music, food vendors, games and free parking—offering a family night set from 5 to 9 p.m.  Star City News

CRIME NEWS

  • A high-speed traffic stop on I-65 in Tippecanoe County on July 16th led officers to find cocaine, fentanyl, and more than 100 grams of meth in a Ford Explorer driven by Indiana residents Howard London and Sherry Watkins—both now face charges as the drug trafficking investigation grows.  Star City News
  • A Lafayette man is facing charges after he allegedly fired his gun during a speeding dispute near children playing—police said he injured a man who was taken to the hospital before the suspect fled and was later detained on Hall Street.  Star City News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Last week, city council approved an expansion to the designated outdoor refreshment area (DORA) that now stretches from 11th to Second Street downtown. Local business managers say the move may boost foot traffic and encourage safe, walkable experiences as people shop and dine responsibly.  Star City News
  • A judge dismissed a lawsuit challenging Indiana's college intellectual diversity law due to insufficient proof that the law chilled free speech. The ACLU of Indiana, which filed the suit on behalf of four professors who claimed the law infringed on their academic freedom — and the group said it is disappointed — said it is reviewing its next steps.  Journal & Courier
