- ➤ Lafayette has released a survey asking residents for input on how to improve biking as the city works to become recognized as a Bicycle Friendly Community by the League of American Bicyclists. The survey asks about biking frequency, barriers, and available paths—local officials and riders note trails like the Wabash Heritage Trail as important routes. Star City News
- ➤ Cyclists will ride at the Subaru of Indiana test track on August 2 in the 24-hour CASA for Kids bike race to raise funds for Court Appointed Special Advocates who help children facing abuse or neglect. The race starts at 10 a.m.—each mile ridden adds to the effort to support these advocates. Star City News

- ➤ Lafayette police tested 800-pound Meridian Archer barriers on Main Street Tuesday morning to block vehicles following recent terror attacks and the devices will secure downtown for Friday’s Destination Downtown block party — the barriers rotate and embed themselves to disable large vehicles. - ➤ Lafayette Police Department is inviting locals to join its free 2025 Citizens Academy to learn about police work. The eight-week program runs every Thursday from September 4 to October 23 at the Public Safety Center—participants must be at least 18 and complete required background checks with only 40 spots available. - ➤ Zack Ziembo won the Greater Lafayette Men's City Tournament final at Kampen-Cosler Course in West Lafayette when a lucky bounce off his family's golf cart helped save his shot. The Fowler native played his first tournament in 10 years under a new rule that allowed non-Tippecanoe players and edged out 3-time champion Austin Conroy to capture the title. Journal & Courier
- ➤ Bret Bielema said at Big Ten Media Days yesterday that Ryan Walters, who posted a record of 5 to 19 as Purdue's head coach, was fired for not building a strong coaching staff—rather than for lacking football knowledge. Walters, who once impressed Bielema at Illinois, is now serving as the defensive coordinator at Washington. Journal & Courier
- ➤ Purdue student Nikolai Petkov, a 19-year-old cybersecurity major, finished in the top 15 at the Greater Lafayette Men's City Championship in his first competitive golf tournament after taking up the sport just over a year ago.
