COMMUNITY NEWS

  • CASAs for Kids Fund will host its 24-hour cycling challenge at the Subaru of Indiana Test Track from Aug. 2 at 10 a.m. until Aug. 3 at 10 a.m., with riders competing individually or as a team to raise funds for children who have suffered abuse and neglect. The event supports services such as haircuts, sports fees and tutoring — and organizers are urging more participants, sponsors and donors to join the community effort.  Journal & Courier

  • A car crash early Sunday near 5200 West 200 North claimed the life of Camden man Michael Jarrell Jr. at IU Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette — a forensic autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.  WLFI

  • Richard Allen, charged in the Delphi murders of Abby Williams and Libby German, was moved from Pendleton Correctional Facility to the Oklahoma Department of Corrections—bringing him closer to his original home while he faces up to 130 years if convicted.  Star City News

  • Blues icon Buddy Guy performed at Loeb Stadium Friday night in Lafayette, where fans connected with the 88-year-old musician up close—one young mother and her daughter even received a special backstage invitation. Other local attendees shared their excitement as they celebrated a live performance that deepened their love for the blues.  Star City News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At the Tippecanoe County Fair, kids competed in the 4-H Dairy Cattle Show and learned animal care and teamwork by leasing and training cows from the David Byers farm. The fair will hold more events until the 26th (offering young participants more chances to explore agriculture).  Star City News
  • Purdue University has created the Neil Armstrong Space Prize—an annual award for space industry innovators who push their field forward. The first award will be given in 2026.  Star City News

  • The Tippecanoe County Sheriff Department welcomed a new K9 named Nazir who made a drug bust in his first week in the field. Sheriff Goldsmith said the Q360 program—partnering with local mental health providers—is helping people overcome drug addiction and take steps toward a productive life.  Star City News
