CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Lafayette police arrested 57-year-old Stanley Chandler Wednesday night after he allegedly opened a car door and tried to grab the driver before the vehicle sped away—officers found him intoxicated and he later threatened them, booking him on charges of attempted robbery, intimidation and public intoxication. - ➤ The Tippecanoe County 4-H Fair will open soon at the fairgrounds with Indiana-sourced food, carnival rides, and exhibits—4-H participants will also showcase their animals and develop skills like responsibility and teamwork. WLFI
- ➤ Purdue University expert Mustafa Abdallah advised that using strong, unique passwords can help protect personal accounts from scammers and hackers. He recommended setting different passwords for each account and storing them safely—avoiding unsecured apps or files. WLFI
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Lafayette City Council approved an expansion of the downtown outdoor drinking area to boost local activity for the Bicentennial—this new plan covers Main Street from Riehle Plaza to 11th Street and sets extended hours (Monday–Thursday 5–10, Friday 5–11, Saturday noon–11, Sunday noon–10) while allowing patrons over 21 to carry up to two open alcoholic beverages. - ➤ The Tippecanoe Area Plan Commission approved changing 2.24 acres near Fort Ouiatenon from a home area to farmland so a 145 ft tall cell tower can be built for AT&T — which will work with FirstNet to help first responders. Tippecanoe County commissioners will review the plan in August as some neighbors worry about the tower showing too close to the Feast of the Hunter's Moon. Journal & Courier
