ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A 33-year-old woman died on July 4 when fireworks stored in a detached garage on U.S. 231 South south of Romney ignited accidentally—she suffered burns and smoke inhalation as two others were injured and one was airlifted to a hospital while the homeowner escaped unharmed. Journal & Courier
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Lafayette’s bicentennial exhibit (presented by the Tippecanoe County Historical Association) moved from the Carousel Building in Columbian Park to City Hall and is open to visitors weekdays. Star City News
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Indiana public universities have already cut or will soon consolidate about 400 degree programs after a state law requiring minimum graduation numbers was passed on June 30. Faculty and staff say the changes restrict academic freedom and may lead to layoffs, a drop in enrollment and a brain drain in the coming years—especially in liberal arts fields. Journal & Courier

- ➤ Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita warned consumers about recalled items including baby walkers, cribs, handrails, and electric blankets that may harm families. State officials urged people to follow recall notices to return, fix, replace or dispose of the products recalled in June — protecting families from injury. Journal & Courier
- ➤ Morehouse Road in West Lafayette is closed today for reconstruction; the road between Kalberer Road and Morehouse Court will be shut for one year and is expected to reopen in July 2026—drivers should use alternate routes. Star City News
