Indiana officials warn many low-head dams, like the one on Silver Creek, have dangerous currents that can trap swimmers.
After 14-year-old AJ died near Silver Creek Landing last year, his mother filed a lawsuit alleging official neglect—while experts urge improved safety measures such as wearing life jackets and adding warning signs.

The Lafayette Fire Department offered grilling safety tips to prevent fires this summer, warning residents to stay with their grills and keep gas grills with the lid open during ignition + to cool charcoal coals before disposing of them.
They noted that grill-related accidents have led to many ER visits and stressed that proper care can avoid serious damage.
🏈 Sports
After last week's House vs. NCAA settlement, Purdue athletic director Mike Bobinski said the university will use a $20.5 million revenue-sharing fund to boost scholarships and launch a new in-house marketing unit called Boiler BrandWorks to help athletes get NIL deals.
The athletic department will also adjust roster limits + explore private equity options to support long-term revenue needs.
Purdue football announced on Thursday that Max Carmicle from Hillcrest High School in suburban Chicago switched his commitment from Northern Illinois to the Boilermakers for the 2026 season.
He visited Purdue last week and is the fifth defensive recruit, with offers reportedly from Kentucky and Michigan State.
