BUSINESS NEWS

  • Aldi announced summer price cuts on over 400 items at its Lafayette stores, with discounts up to 33% starting June 5 and running through Labor Day — the cuts are expected to save shoppers nearly $100 million — reflecting a strong effort to ease rising grocery costs.  Journal & Courier

CULTURE NEWS

  • The City of Lafayette announced a limited edition silver coin to mark its Bicentennial and honor local heritage with images of founder William Digby, General de Lafayette, the Wabash River, and the Erie canal. Designed by Terry Edgell of the Tippecanoe County Historical Association, the coin sells for $54.95 (contact for purchase) and profits will be donated to the local Daughter of the American Revolution chapter.  Star City News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Purdue University sent a letter stating it would end The Exponent's campus distribution, cancel its parking access, and require the paper to remove the Purdue name from its branding—despite the paper holding a valid trademark until 2029. The university said these steps follow policy violations by the independent student newspaper.  WLFI
  • At the Purdue board of trustees meeting, officials detailed changes for fall 2026 that will raise tuition by $500 for international undergraduates, $45 for international graduate students, and add a 3% fee for non-resident students in Fort Wayne and Northwest along with a $1,000 per semester increase for select programs. Protesters gathered at the meeting — holding signs that said Purdue was on the wrong side of history.  Star City News

  • The West Lafayette Golf and Country Club closed its doors and is now listed for sale at $8 million, according to the clerk's website—No Trespassing signs and overgrown grass mark the property along U.S. 52. The club was known for hosting a popular Fourth of July event in our area.  WLFI

  • McCutcheon juniors Lola Goodrick and Madalyn Cheesman, who became friends in grade school and won their first sectional championship last weekend, will compete in today's IHSAA regional individual doubles round at North Central. They hold a 22-2 record after training with lessons at Purdue + coaching from former West Lafayette coach Mike Thiel.  Journal & Courier
