- ➤ The Greater Lafayette Climate Action Plan committee invites locals to GreenFest 2025 with workshops and a kids' zone scheduled for June 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Big Four Depot. WLFI
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ In 2023, Purdue University had over 13,000 international students across its campuses, including 780 at Purdue Northwest Calumet and 713 at Purdue Fort Wayne. This total placed Purdue 11th among nearly 500 US colleges issuing F-1 visas (with New York University leading with nearly 25,000 F-1 visas). Journal & Courier
- ➤ On Jun 3, Purdue University discontinued its DEI office and refocused student support programs—students said the decision came unexpectedly. Star City News
- ➤ The West Lafayette Public Library today launched its summer reading program to keep children learning during the break. The programs include STEM classes and Color Our World events—aimed at reaching a community goal of 1.5 million minutes read and helping kids start the next school year prepared. Star City News
- ➤ Today, Purdue University asked The Purdue Exponent to stop using 'Purdue' for commercial purposes and ended its on-campus distribution support — the paper has raised concerns that this may infringe on its First Amendment rights. Star City News

- ➤ CityBus invites Lafayette residents to share their ideas for improving public transit through its Keep CityBus Moving 2030 plan—public sessions will be held from today to June 16 and feedback can be given online and by comment cards. The effort aims to boost access to jobs, education, healthcare, and other essential services. WLFI
- ➤ Indiana Gov Mike Braun signed House Enrolled Act 1149 in March to direct the state Department of Agriculture to develop an online portal for Hoosier farmers & consumers to simplify interactions with federal and state agencies. ISDA is asking for input via a two-minute survey to help shape the one-stop-shop platform set to launch in 2026. WLFI
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Franciscan Health announced plans to build a new emergency department at the corner of 52 West and Cumberland Avenue in West Lafayette, which will provide faster emergency care and reduce travel times for local residents. The project will create 35 to 40 new jobs for nurses and other medical staff—an important addition to local health services. Star City News
