  • On Sunday the city unveiled a new historical marker for Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, the oldest Black church in Tippecanoe County, honoring 180 years of worship, education, and social services. City officials thanked Reverend Pamela Jones-Horne + community members for their dedicated research.  Star City News

  • Lafayette’s Mountain Jacks Steakhouse closed Monday, June 1 after nearly 50 years of service when the property owner declined to renew its lease. Loyal employees worked final shifts and owners Ed and Blanca remain hopeful about relocating to continue the restaurant’s legacy.  Journal & Courier

CULTURE NEWS

  • Lafayette Parks and Recreation invites the community to its first Dance Night themed Art in the Park event today from 6 – 8:30 p.m. at Columbian Park; attendees can enjoy live performances, local artists, food trucks, kid-friendly crafts, and giveaways.  Star City News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Indiana State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division is partnering with the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance from June 1–5 for a Human Trafficking Awareness Initiative (TAT stands for Truckers Against Trafficking) that will involve roadside inspections and driver outreach at truck stops and rest areas.  Star City News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Purdue veterinarians used CT scans and a 3D printer to create a custom helmet for Sassy — a quarter horse injured by a tree branch during a severe storm; the helmet protects her face and eye as she recovers over the next few months before returning to her Michigan home.  Journal & Courier

SPORTS NEWS

  • Lafayette Central Catholic won its fifth sectional title in a row by shutting out North Montgomery 8-0 Monday night. The team now prepares for a regional championship against Lapel (Saturday, June 6).  Journal & Courier
