  • United Way of Greater Lafayette honored local volunteers at its recognition luncheon, where Clerk Cindy Murray presented the Youth Volunteer/Citizenship Award to Jefferson High School student Marissa Kennedy, and the event showcased the community’s commitment to service + received congratulatory messages online.  Star City News

  • Broken Yolk Cafe, an upscale breakfast and lunch spot, is coming to Lafayette at 3640 South St. — construction will start in the next two to four weeks with a mid-fall opening planned.  Journal & Courier
  • The fourth HireMe Career Fair was held Wednesday at the Tippecanoe County Fair Grounds and welcomed both high school students and adults. Companies conducted interviews + connected with job seekers looking for new opportunities.  Star City News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Cole Elementary School earned Arbor Day Foundation's Tree Campus Recognition for the fourth consecutive year, honoring its use of trees to teach environmental stewardship (supporting hands-on green learning).  Star City News
  • River City Church expanded its STEAM Academy in West Lafayette by adding 91 child-care spots and a new two-story indoor play space (at 3504 Morehouse Road). A celebration runs today from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., and families may schedule tours ahead of an open house on May 9.  Journal & Courier
  • Harrison High School senior Lilyann Peters won the state FFA Award for Environmental Sciences after leading a project to replace invasive plants with native ones in the school courtyard (she will represent Indiana at the National FFA convention in the fall and plans to study agronomy at Purdue).  Star City News

  • Lafayette Jeff senior guard Da'Niyah Johnson will play college basketball at Marian-Ancilla in Plymouth. She credits supportive mentors (teacher Dave Barrett and coach Jenna Sullivan) and hard work that helped her overcome injuries and develop her game.  Journal & Courier
