BUSINESS NEWS

  • Foundation permits for 14 SK Hynix buildings have been approved so the company will soon start work on guard houses, pump houses, warehouses and storage facilities — walls and framing approval is still pending.  Star City News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lafayette School Corporation announced Oscar Trujillo will replace Chuck Hockema on the Board of Trustees. Trujillo, a 2009 Jefferson High graduate and current educator for the Indiana Migrant Education Program, will serve through the end of the 2026 term (meeting board needs).  Star City News
  • Lafayette School Corporation will launch a new virtual academy next school year for high school students by parental choice, explained Assistant Superintendent Dr. Katie Reckard. Students will log in daily using Courseware and receive guidance from Jeff High School counselors (though extracurricular activities like prom will not be available) as enrollment details are finalized.  Star City News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Mike Braun announced the $60 million Iron Nation—Indiana initiative today to connect local companies, universities, and healthcare systems with Israeli technology firms. The state contributes $15 million while the Iron Nation Partnership adds over $30 million, and more details will be shared later.  WLFI
  • Gov. Mike Braun proclaimed this week as Public Safety Telecommunicator Week in Indiana to honor 911 telecommunicators who support first responders & strengthen community safety.  WLFI

SPORTS NEWS

  • Purdue football secured a commitment from three-star running back Amos Bradford of Chaminade-Madonna Prep for its 2027 class after a strong Spring Showcase visit; he chose Purdue over offers from Indiana, Florida, and Miami as Coach Barry Odom strengthens his offense.  Journal & Courier
  • On Monday, Apr. 13, rookie quarterback Jackie Ryder from New Trier in Winnetka committed to Purdue Football for the 2027 class after a spring showcase at Ross-Ade Stadium — he chose Purdue over offers from Illinois State, North Dakota and Southern Miss.  Journal & Courier
  • Purdue baseball swept Northwestern 8-3 on Sunday with four home runs and a strong pitching performance by Austin Klug — who pitched a two-hit shutout into the seventh inning — and will host Miami (Ohio) Tuesday at Alexander Field with first pitch at 6 p.m.  WLFI
  • Local coaches selected 10 standout boys basketball players from Class 3A and 4A schools for the Journal & Courier Big Schools All-Area team today — recognizing key season performances and leadership across local high schools.   • Purdue football camp ended Saturday with a Spring Showcase after 15 practices and 53 new players joined the team. Five newcomers, including running back Ijeboi and receiver Kinsey, stood out and are expected to boost the team's play this season.  Journal & Courier
