ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Indiana increased by 13 cents since last month but remain nearly 40 cents lower than at this time last year, with Lafayette recording $3.21 per gallon at local pumps. Analysts expect prices to rise later in April — the switch to summer-blend fuel may push rates higher in most areas.  WLFI

  • Emma Segal, a defensive specialist for Indiana, returned to Frontier on Saturday for a scrimmage versus Illinois State—coming off surgery on her right wrist and urging athletes to never give up.  Journal & Courier
  • Jalil Hall, a four-star receiver who originally signed with West Virginia, announced Saturday morning he will join Purdue following a coaching staff change. He caught 56 passes for 991 yards and 14 touchdowns last fall and his commitment strengthens Purdue's receiving unit for the upcoming season—boosting the team.  Journal & Courier
  • McCutcheon catcher Sydney Osborn hit a grand slam—his best play of the game—against Rossville.  Journal & Courier
  • Ethan Trent explained his reaction on earning a Purdue football scholarship—he said the news boosted his drive in both his academic and athletic pursuits.  Journal & Courier
  • Throughout the spring, Purdue football's top offensive playmaker, George Burhenn (a redshirt sophomore tight end), suffered a leg injury during an April 5 scrimmage at Mollenkopf Athletic Center and had successful surgery on Wednesday, according to coach Barry Odom.
