- ➤ Columbian Park Zoo is getting ready to open its season on Saturday with new animals and updated exhibits. The zoo is building a primate area and will introduce a long-anticipated carousel this summer (along with displays featuring hellbender salamanders and baby goats expected soon). Star City News

- ➤ Latino Business Expo returns to Lafayette on Friday, April 24 at the Tippecanoe County Fairgrounds from 3-7 p.m. The free event will feature over 60 local businesses — food trucks, a taco cook-off and a bounce house offer family-friendly attractions. Star City News
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Indiana Department of Education honored local schools with a 95% IREAD pass rate last year as part of efforts to improve literacy. Representative Klinker praised the schools (Amelia Earhart, Lafayette Christian, Saint Lawrence, Saint James Lutheran, and Paramount) for their teamwork amid post-COVID challenges. Star City News

- ➤ Tree Lafayette will plant its 5,000th tree during an Earth Day celebration at McAllister Recreation Center on Apr. 22 at 10 a.m., with Mayor Tony Roswarski reading the proclamation & volunteers planting 15 additional trees to mark the milestone. Journal & Courier

- ➤ Lafayette City Council and the Board of Public Works approved the demolition of the former Hanna Center to clear the way for a new $10.2 million Right Steps child-care facility at 1201 N. 18th St. Poisel Construction (contract valued at $36,900) is set to begin the demolition soon.
