Amarion Alsup, a 22-year-old from Kokomo, was sentenced to 45 years in prison on April 4th for his role in the 2023 shooting death of Anthony Holdbrook near 813 North 7th Street in Lafayette — court records show he pleaded guilty to murder and Level 5 felony battery resulting in serious bodily injury.

A Lafayette man, Demarcus Deshawn Scorza (46), was charged with a Level 5 felony for driving near Main Street and Asher Street on April 7 despite having his license permanently revoked after a 2004 conviction.

West Lafayette and Bloomington appear on Rent Cafe’s top 20 list of best college towns in the US; West Lafayette ranked 19 overall and sixth in the Midwest with a score of 92.34—Bloomington ranked 11 overall and third with a score of 94.60.

Purdue University placed 12 graduate programs in the national top 10 and its College of Engineering tied for fifth in the latest U.S. News & World Report rankings released Tuesday.

The rankings showed the agricultural and biological engineering program ranked No. 1 and noted gains in industrial and biomedical engineering as Purdue is constructing a new Nursing and Pharmacy Education Building on campus.

The Senate passed a bill by a 35—13 vote that sends measures to the governor requiring Secretary of State Diego Morales to study switches to vote center voting and to ban student IDs as poll IDs at public colleges.

The bill calls for gradual income tax cuts starting in 2030 and the House later approved changes to address towing abuses and drug advertising before sending them back to the Senate.

Senate Bill 10 (headed for Governor Mike Braun’s desk) would ban Purdue student IDs at polling stations in Tippecanoe County, a move critics say aims to stop voter fraud.

Some Purdue students worry the change will make voting harder (since many rely on campus IDs) and may lower turnout.

Purdue basketball is seen as a national championship contender because its top three scorers from the Sweet 16 run are set to return for the coming season.
