CRIME NEWS

  • Elijah McLean is held without bond in jail for his alleged role in the Feb. 28 murders of Laportia Shenett and Kadeisha Ross in Lafayette after he is accused of providing a murder weapon and helping hide its parts, court documents show.  Journal & Courier

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Wabash River Enhancement Corporation has received a $35,000 Duke Energy Foundation grant to restore native oak savanna habitat along the Wabash River Greenway in Tippecanoe County. The project will convert a 20-acre fallow field into a public green space by removing invasive grasses, planting prairie seeds and establishing oak trees—adding trails and a parking area.  Star City News

  • Lane restrictions will be in effect on North River Road between the West Lafayette limits and County Road 500 North on April 10 and 11 as Milestone Contractors seal joints from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.—drivers are advised to plan alternate routes for potential delays.  Star City News

SPORTS NEWS

  • McCutcheon sophomore Lillie Graves was voted Journal & Courier Big Schools Player of the Year for the second straight season; she earned first-team all-state and IBCA Supreme 15 honors—averaging 18.9 points per game as she helped her team win a sectional title.  Journal & Courier
  • Lafayette area high schools showcased their best plays in winter 2024-25 with improbable game winners, back bending wrestling moves, and broken swim records marking an exciting season.  Journal & Courier
  • Purdue will conclude its spring season with a free showcase on Saturday at Ross-Ade Stadium that begins at noon and features practice drills and scrimmage plays—letting fans see the team’s preparation for the fall season. Head coach Barry Odom said the event is designed to mirror in-season practice sessions as the players get ready for regular play.  Journal & Courier
