GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A new bill led by Purdue Student Government aims to expand Indiana’s Lifeline Law (SB 74) to grant legal immunity for underage individuals suffering from alcohol-related emergencies. If signed by Gov. Mike Braun, the change will take effect as early as July 1.  WLFI
  • Governor Mike Braun signed an executive order to improve transparency in Indiana's permitting process. The order requires the Department of Environmental Management, the Department of Natural Resources and the Department of Transportation to post monthly reports that include application counts, processing times and the percentage of permits issued on time—agency leaders will also review their processes for compliance.  Star City News
  • South Ninth Street is closed at 7 a.m. today for tree removal as city crews work in the area. The city advises drivers to use Veterans Memorial Parkway—18th Street—and Ortman Lane, with crews returning Monday morning to continue work before the street reopens over the weekend.  Star City News

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Indiana Basketball Coaches Association announced its 2024-25 IBCA/Franciscan Health boys basketball Supreme 15 and All-State teams for large and small schools—this honor is given to the top players chosen by a panel of 22 coaches without regard to school size.  Journal & Courier
  • Today the NCAA Tournament resumes with the Sweet 16 games as the field narrows to 16 teams. Local sports writer Sam King predicts Auburn, Florida, Duke, and Tennessee will win their regionals—setting up a Final Four showdown in San Antonio.  Journal & Courier
  • After Purdue used a four-guard lineup to beat McNeese State and counter its press, the team will try a similar approach in its Sweet 16 game with Houston tomorrow. Purdue's mix of experienced starters, outside shooting, and strong rebounding is expected to challenge Houston’s top-ranked defense — which has helped the Cougars win 28 of their last 29 games.  Journal & Courier
