  • Friends of Downtown will host a 0.1K marathon on March 15 to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day and benefit the Almost Home Humane Society—Main Street between 6th and 8th will be closed from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Star City News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Lafayette is expecting severe thunderstorms and high winds on March 14th and 15th as part of severe weather preparedness week. Emergency officials urge residents to charge cell phones and keep backup supplies—like weather radios and safe spots in their homes—to be ready for any storm impacts.  Star City News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Purdue basketball rallied from a first-half deficit to beat USC 76—71 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse as Trey Kaufman-Renn scored 30 points and Cam Heide added key rebounds and three-pointers. The team now will face Michigan in the quarterfinals on Friday at 9 p.m.  Journal & Courier
  • Purdue basketball coach Matt Painter led his team to a Final Four breakthrough and earned a $4.85 million salary for 2024-25, ranking 13th among Division I coaches. His contract extension through 2028-29 will raise his pay to $4.975 million next season.  Journal & Courier
  • Purdue Grand Prix Track in West Lafayette installed a 109-year-old brick from the first Indianapolis Motor Speedway race track on Wednesday when Indianapolis Motor Speedway President Douglas Boles laid the piece before local media attended the ceremony. The historic brick will be part of the 68th annual go-kart race on April 26—linking past racing heritage to future local motorsports.  Journal & Courier
  • Purdue baseball beat Butler 10-1 on Wednesday at Alexander Field, marking their 15th win in 17 games as they begin a 13-game home stretch. Coach Greg Goff and top players Lukas Cook and Logan Sutter say the team’s close bond helped the win + they expect it will drive more success this season.  Journal & Courier
  • McCutcheon, Twin Lakes and Rensselaer will play in the IndyStar Girls All Star Futures Game on June 2 at Fishers High School as sophomore guard Lillie Graves leads her team for a second season. Graves helped McCutcheon win its first IHSAA regional title since 2011 and is known for scoring and strong defense + coaches from Twin Lakes and Rensselaer look to add new milestones.  Journal & Courier
