GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Danise Baird, wife of Rep. Jim Baird, died on March 1 following complications from injuries sustained in a January car crash in Washington, D.C. His office announced her passing after he filed for re-election days after the incident. Journal & Courier
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Local sports fans can vote for Ivy Tech Journal & Courier Athlete of the Week nominees chosen from events held (Feb. 23–28) in gymnastics, swimming, and basketball, with polls closing Thursday at noon. Journal & Courier
- ➤ Purdue forward Jack Benter said the team’s small lineup — and weak defense — led to their loss at Ohio State. He stressed that improving defense will be a key focus in upcoming games. Journal & Courier
- ➤ North Montgomery senior Jackson Grundy, who beat stage 5 kidney disease with a transplant last year, is set to play his final basketball game Tuesday when his team faces Seeger in the sectional. His return comes with strong support from coaches, teammates & friends. Journal & Courier
- ➤ At Elite Gymnastics Club, Tri-County freshman Emilie Bullington finished second in the all-around at the IHSAA sectional championships. Harrison advanced to regionals on Saturday at Portage High School by finishing among three automatic qualifiers. Journal & Courier
- ➤ Purdue women's basketball advanced into the Big Ten Conference tournament after a 67-60 win over Northwestern on Sunday, Mar. 1, with key plays from Nya Smith, Kiki Smith and Tara Daye. The team is expected to hold the No. 14 seed in next week’s tournament in Indianapolis. Journal & Courier
