- ➤ Subaru of Indiana Automotive began production of its first Forester Hybrid on Monday afternoon at its Lafayette plant — Mayor Roswarski and City Clerk Cindy Murray were present at the ceremony. The hybrid, to be assembled for national sales, is the first made in the U.S. Star City News
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ West Lafayette student artists will display their initiative at TAF with an opening reception on Feb. 6 (the showcase will run through Feb. 27). Star City News
- ➤ In Lafayette, First Baptist Church received a $21,700 planning grant for a building conditions assessment while Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church was awarded $5,000 to prepare a state historical marker application. Indiana Landmarks — which supports preservation projects statewide — distributed over $3 million in grants in 2025. Journal & Courier
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Faith Christian High School is challenging other Tippecanoe County schools to join its Leadership Academy, where 40 students design community service projects beyond campus + lead a food drive with Food Finders. The program aims to expand local efforts with guidance from community mentors. WLFI
- ➤ Purdue University announced that its free Presidential Lecture Series will begin with science writer Timothy Ferris on Feb. 26, with future talks by AMD CEO Lisa Su on March 2, Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen on March 25 and venture investor Bruce Leak on April 30 + locations to be announced. - ➤ The Indiana Department of Education invites schools and community groups to join the 2026 Summer Food Service Program, which will provide free meals to children 18 and younger this summer. Interested sponsors can apply by April 30 (USDA guidelines apply). Journal & Courier

- ➤ The Lafayette Fire Department held a breakfast celebration to honor Sergeant Lance Martin, set to retire in April after over 25 years, and to recognize five members celebrating ten years with the department. Star City News
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ West Lafayette council approved rezoning for Parkview Health to build a 40-bed, $200M hospital on a 26-acre site in Purdue Research Park. The facility is set for completion by 2028 and is part of a growing local health-care boom. Journal & Courier
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Lafayette Jeff boys basketball ended a season of close losses with a 55-50 win over Harrison on Tuesday at May Gymnasium. The Bronchos pulled ahead in the fourth quarter and will face Kokomo on Thursday. Journal & Courier
- ➤ Seeger junior Bella Hubner broke a 30-year-old school diving record and won both the sectional title and the 100-yard backstroke on Jan. 24 at the conference finals. The multi-sport athlete trains daily with coach Jerry Taylor (70) and teammate Megan while balancing early morning practices, school activities and other sports. Journal & Courier
- ➤ Former Purdue basketball star Jaden Ivey will join the Chicago Bulls as part of a three-team trade that sends Mike Conley Jr. to Chicago plus involves the Pistons and Minnesota Timberwolves using a 2026 first-round pick. The deal was reported Feb. 3. Journal & Courier
- ➤ Between Jan. 18 and 31, Lafayette sports delivered milestone plays, wrestling redemption arcs and a buzzer-beater during a fire alarm. Fans witnessed a memorable week that underscored the community's competitive spirit. Journal & Courier
