COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Lafayette Transitional Housing Center and Purdue University's EPICS program have developed a new app named Tippecanoe County Connect to help local residents quickly find shelter, food and other resources. The app features simple icons to give users direct access to vital local services amid growing needs.  Star City News
  • NAMI West Central Indiana will host its Saturday Night Lafayette Comedy Gala on Saturday, Feb. 7 at Stables Event Center at 6 p.m. Purdue comedy troupe The Crazy Monkeys and local celebrities will perform to raise funds for mental health initiatives, and tickets are available for $70 per seat or $500 per table.  Star City News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Purdue Research Foundation filed three permits on Jan. 26 for SK hynix’s $4 billion chip plant at 3800 Yeager Road in West Lafayette, totaling $98M for foundation work + including permits for the main office, utility building, and factory. Environmental permits are underway as the project moves forward.  Journal & Courier

CULTURE NEWS

  • Country star Randy Travis will tour with James Dupre and his original band at Long Center on March 13 as part of his More Life Tour—featuring video tribute segments to honor his legacy—offering fans a unique multimedia experience.  Journal & Courier
  • The 59th Feast of the Hunters' Moon will take place Oct. 24-25 at Fort Ouiatenon County Park in West Lafayette. This historic reenactment helps raise funds for Tippecanoe County Historical Association operations + supports over 50 local nonprofits.  Journal & Courier

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Tippecanoe Purdue Alumni Club will host a bingo and trivia night at Foster Farms Sports Barn near West Lafayette on Feb. 21 to raise scholarship funds for local students heading to Purdue. Augie & Roberta Ziccarelli will host the event with a $25 fee and prizes for top teams.  WLFI

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Since winter, bald eagles have been seen soaring above the Tippecanoe and Wabash Rivers due to improved water conditions. Local resident Greg Schwartz takes photos to highlight the birds' return (he has captured up to 60 at one time).  Star City News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Indiana BMV urges residents to upgrade to a Real ID to sidestep a $45 fee + additional TSA screenings that began Feb. 1. Those without compliant IDs should visit a local BMV branch with the proper documents.  Journal & Courier
  • The West Lafayette Police Department congratulated Chief Adam Ferguson on his 25 years of service today—he had also spent a short time as a dispatcher earlier in his career.  Star City News

  • Ivy Tech Journal and Courier announced 20 nominees from 13 schools for Athlete of the Week based on sports achievements in basketball and wrestling from Jan. 26-31. Voting is open until Friday at noon and anyone can submit their pick (contact sports reporter Ethan Hanson for details).  Journal & Courier
  • Journal and Courier updates the IHSAA girls basketball sectional playoffs scoreboard with live scores and schedules from local venues, starting today with games at 6 p.m. on Tuesday and continuing through Saturday + check back frequently for updates.  Journal & Courier
