ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Snow began falling on Saturday in Lafayette and West Lafayette, spurring residents to shovel driveways and sled at Slayter Hill during the winter storm (Jan. 24-25). Main roads were plowed though some remained challenging to navigate.  Journal & Courier

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Lafayette urged residents today to remove their cars from streets until plowing clears curb to curb — even off priority routes — to help snow removal crews during the snow emergency. Following the city’s order will speed clearing conditions for safe travel.  WLFI

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Sunday, Purdue Women's Basketball beat Indiana 80-69, ending a 13-game losing streak and returning the Barn Burner Trophy to West Lafayette for the first time in ten years (Katie Gearalds earned her 300th win). The team will host No. 13 Michigan State at Mackey Arena Thursday at 6 p.m.  WLFI
  • Live updates on Jan. 25 revealed Indiana high school girls basketball sectional pairings for Class 4A, 3A, 2A and 1A at McCutcheon, Western, Lebanon, Benton Central, North White and North Vermillion. The event previewed playoff journeys for teams in the Lafayette area.  Journal & Courier
  • Yesterday, Purdue women's basketball beat Indiana 80-69 at Mackey Arena to reclaim the Barn Burner Trophy for the first time since 2016, ending a 13-game losing streak against the rival. Sophomore Nya Smith led the team with 13 points (marking Coach Katie Gearlds’ first win over Indiana as a coach).  Journal & Courier
  • High school girls basketball sectionals pairings were drawn on Jan. 25 with games starting Feb. 3 at venues statewide including Lafayette Central Catholic. The match-ups list each sectional number, host school, and competing teams as teams gear up for state tournament play.  Journal & Courier
