- ➤ Lafayette Urban Ministries and Lafayette Transitional Housing Center are preparing to shelter residents today amid a winter storm — below-zero temperatures are expected. The organizations offer 48 beds, 50 floor mats, and 20 extra cots to ensure everyone stays off the streets. Journal & Courier
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Winter storm warning is in effect from 7 PM today to 7 AM EST Monday for parts of central, east central and west central Indiana with 4 to 8 inches of snow — a cold weather advisory until noon warns of wind chills that may cause frostbite. WLFI

- ➤ Tippecanoe County Parks advises residents to avoid ice fishing and skating on county lakes and ponds following the winter storm. Officials warn that dangerous ice conditions remain unpredictable and ask visitors to follow posted signs for their safety. Star City News
- ➤ City of Lafayette officials are preparing for a forecasted winter storm this weekend by planning to deploy crews to 12 designated snow routes if a snow emergency is declared. Priority one streets will be plowed first (emergency routes) so plows can then work on trash and residential streets. WLFI

- ➤ After Indiana won the national championship on Jan. 23 by defeating Miami, Purdue coach Barry Odom texted congratulations to IU coach Curt Cignetti; he noted the 56-3 loss as a reminder of the tough Big Ten challenge as Purdue looks to improve this season. Journal & Courier
- ➤ Purdue football added a new kicker to its 2026 recruiting class — Jacobo Echeverria Lozano — to fill a special teams need after Spencer Porath transferred to Notre Dame. The kicker made 17-of-18 field goals last season and will back up returning kicker Seth Turner. Journal & Courier
