COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Adults can join the eighth annual Scouting 4 Eggs Adult Easter Egg Hunt at Cary Camp on March 28 in Lafayette. Pre-registration is required for $25 tickets, and shuttles will run from Faith Church East, with the hunt starting at sunset and prizes include sports memorabilia, gift cards, and more.  Journal & Courier

CULTURE NEWS

  • Purdue student Presley Hampton won Miss Indiana State Fair and is studying marketing while planning to attend the Fashion Institute of Technology. This summer, she will visit nearly 50 counties to promote the fair and launch her sales career.  Star City News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Indiana Sheriffs' Association will award about 40 scholarships of $1,000 each to Indiana residents studying criminal justice. Applicants including members + relatives of members may apply through high school counselors, sheriff's offices, or the association website, with applications due by April 1.  WLFI
  • Purdue University ranks first statewide for research spending with $931.5 million in fiscal 2024 — up nearly $86 million from last year and expected to top $1 billion next fiscal year.  Star City News
  • Matt Conaway, a Purdue veteran, becomes the new director of the All American Marching Band this season. He will lead the band at Ross Ade Stadium, promising to boost game day spirit + honor Purdue traditions.  WLFI
  • On Jan. 13, William Henry Harrison High School kicked off spring semester by welcoming school resource officer Cody Caballero (eighth SRO) to Tippecanoe School Corp, strengthening daily support for 14,000 students across 22 schools.  Journal & Courier

HEALTH NEWS

  • Franciscan Health, Food Finders, Indy Hunger Network and CookingMatters.org will host free Cooking Matters classes starting Feb. 4 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Food Finders Food Bank Katy Bunder Food Resource & Education Center (1204 Greenbush Street); classes will run every other Wednesday in February and March and invite families with children age 7 and older.  WLFI
  • Parkview Health announced a partnership with Undue Medical Debt on Jan. 13 to eliminate $64.13 million in debt for 35,694 patients using criteria based on household income. Eligible patients will receive Undue-branded envelopes in the mail this week.  Star City News

  • Purdue basketball’s Braden Smuth recalled how he connected with Iowa guard Bennett Stirtz last summer (they practiced together at a shared camp). Both players plan to build on that bond this season.  Journal & Courier
  • Purdue football added former Virginia Tech edge rusher Keyshawn Burgos & junior college transfer receiver Ricky Sampson while losing standout kicker Spencer Porath to Notre Dame today. The move represents another roster change through the transfer portal.  Journal & Courier
