CULTURE NEWS

  • The Art Museum of Greater Lafayette will host 'Exploring the Collection: Alice Baber' on Feb. 17 from 6 to 7 p.m. Historians and writer Gail Levin will discuss Baber’s impact and sign her book 'Alice Baber: An Artist’s Triumph Over Tragedy.'  Star City News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Visit Lafayette-West Lafayette reported that 2.8 million overnight visitors came in 2025 as local festivals, Purdue sports and attractions like Columbian Park maintained steady tourism despite declines elsewhere. The visitor center said the Star City Nights festival returns this year and the zoo will have new improvements.  Star City News

  • Purdue University’s College of Education invites K-12 students to submit essays, art and performances on the significance of African American commemorations—submissions are due Jan 23 at 11:59 p.m., with a celebration at the Purdue Black Cultural Center on Feb 27 from 6-8 p.m.  Star City News
  • Tippecanoe School Corporation added a new sheriff's deputy to its school resource officer program, making it the largest team in district history. Deputy Cody Caballero, who joined the Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Office in 2021 after beginning his career in Chicago, will serve primarily at Harrison High School.  WLFI
  • Purdue University recorded $931.5 million in research spending for fiscal year 2024, ranking fifth nationally among schools without affiliated hospitals. The funding increased nearly $86 million from last year, and projections for the next fiscal year exceed $1 billion — underscoring growing industry and government partnerships.  Journal & Courier

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Subaru of Indiana Automotive has added a 204-kW rooftop solar project at its new Lafayette expansion, and the system now generates more than three times the energy the building uses. The installation is expected to offset over 250 metric tons of carbon dioxide annually — a key part of its sustainability plan.  Journal & Courier

HEALTH NEWS

  • Franciscan Health Lafayette and Mental Health America Wabash Valley will host a free QPR suicide prevention training class on Wednesday, Jan. 28 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Mental Health America Wabash Valley's Lafayette office + 914 South Street to teach how to spot warning signs and start supportive conversations.  WLFI

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Realtor.com data showed that in October homes in Tippecanoe County sold for a median price of $262,500 (a 4.5% drop from September’s $275,000) with single family homes selling for $264,950 and condos and townhomes reaching $235,000, marking differing trends.  Journal & Courier

  • The Ivy Tech Journal & Courier reported 14 local nominees for Athletes of the Week in sports like wrestling, basketball, and diving from area schools. Fans may vote unlimited times until Friday at noon.  Journal & Courier
  • Former starting linebacker Hudson Miller returned to Purdue after transferring from Toledo, and coach Kevin Kane welcomed a slate of new transfers including UCF tight end Kylan Fox, Utah cornerback Donovan Saunders, Samford cornerback Dee Newsome, and Penn receiver Bisi Owens.  Journal & Courier
  • Delphi hired Terry Peebles as its next head football coach on Jan. 12. Peebles, a two-time All-American who led Harrison to sectional titles, takes over and is tasked with ending the program’s six-season playoff drought and challenging rival Carroll in the Bacon Bowl.  Journal & Courier
