- ➤ The West Lafayette Wendy's (252 E. State St.) closed on Dec. 29 as Wendy's corporate shuttered underperforming stores, affecting the local franchise run by Frosty Management Corp. Journal & Courier

- ➤ A Crawfordsville family and a West Lafayette family welcomed the first babies of 2026 on New Year's Day—River was born at Franciscan Health Lafayette East and Willow at IU Health Arnett Hospital. Journal & Courier
- ➤ At Franciscan Health Lafayette East, baby River Joseph was born five minutes after the ball dropped on New Year's Day. The newborn weighed 5 lbs, 9 ounces and measured 17.5 inches while the family received a celebratory gift basket. Star City News

- ➤ Purdue basketball plays Wisconsin at 8 p.m. ET today at Kohl Center in Madison. The Boilermakers (11-1) will look to extend their win streak as the Badgers (9-4) aim to challenge them in Big Ten play. Journal & Courier
- ➤ Purdue basketball coach Matt Painter previewed today's game against Wisconsin at the Kohl Center by outlining team tactics and key matchups. He emphasized strategy adjustments aimed at boosting team performance in the upcoming contest. Journal & Courier
- ➤ Benton Central's girls wrestling team won its first IHSAA sectional title on Jan. 2 with 166.5 points, led by champions Laurana Dillon, Izzy Sayre and Sydney Groves+ The program grew from three wrestlers in 2023-24 to a team that challenged Lafayette powerhouses. Journal & Courier
- ➤ Former Purdue football defensive coordinator Mike Scherer left his role last month and will return to UNLV with a three-year contract. He previously coached at UNLV under coach Barry Odom during the 2023 to 2024 season. Journal & Courier
- ➤ Purdue football backup linebacker and safety Winston Berglund, a Carmel grad, reversed his decision to enter the NCAA transfer portal and will stay with Purdue since his change of heart was announced before the Jan. 16 deadline — he had originally intended to explore transfer options on Dec. 8.
